8. THE WATERS OF ACQUI
The thermal springs of Acqui were already appreciated by ancient Italic peoples, and today Acqui Terme continues to attract visitors seeking the benefits of its sulphur-rich waters. Even those not interested in spa treatments will find plenty to enjoy.
A must-see is the Boiling Fountain, topped by a fin de siècle pavilion, where water gushes out at 75°C. It is the symbol of the town, along with the impressive remains of a Roman aqueduct from the Augustan period. The Cathedral is also worth visiting, with its Romanesque apses, a 15th-century marble portal, a beautiful crypt and the triptych of the Madonna of Montserrat.
